Its For The Lolz and Stuff

Hello you wonderful people of awesomeness! I had a very okay-ish week. However I am in an awesometastic mood, so yea, rainbows and kittens and stuff...:D

I can never for the life of me remember what I was going to say or what you guys said that I want to address/answer. So this is going to be hopefully very long if I can remember/find it all. Lets start with my own excitement and move from there, shall we. I am bursting at the seams with joy for two reasons or more. 1. My friend went to camp in France, and she sent me a postcard! So lets count, that's mail from England and a postcard from France. I will hopefully be writing her back sometime this week! 2. I might be going to see Katie Costello LIVE! I'm not sure if you have heard of her, Alex Day blogged about her once, and I fell in love with her music.

Next, I'm not sure if we have any substitutes for Mars Bars that you don't have. I also have had a Kinder Surprise Egg one Easter when I was four. Not sure if they're still around in the states or not. Kayla I'm so excited to see the progress of your flower sprouts! I love growing things, sadly I don't have and can't start a garden. My dog would eat all the crops :( It would be lovely to fill my front and back lawn with a garden!

Kate I am currently downloading the first Doctor on my computer and I can't wait to watch past episode one. I have also made several scrapbooks. Two of them are from my Wish to Disney World when I was eight, one from several field trips to places like farms and museums, and one of them is of my animals which is mostly cats.

I don't have a favorite food. I'm a flexitarian, which is a part-time vegetarian. I really only eat meat on Thanksgiving, by force may I add because turkey is disgusting. I must say though, that I love pineapple. Also I don't plan on seeing the 3rd Transformer film. I didn't like the first one to begin with, just not my thing. I used to watch the show with my sister when I was younger, but even then it didn't interest me.

I do, however love Pokémon. I have the first 150 in card form, my sister has little figures, a monopoly game and the video games. We used to play the card game with the little figures to make it more real because we're just that dorky. And  Pokémon wasn't just me and my sister, it was my entire family of five children. Something I forgot and will mention now is that is there such a thing as Doctor Who Bear? I was wondering because my mom misheard my brother when he said Doctor Who and thought he said Doctor Who Bear, which is awesome. If it isn't already a thing I think we should make it a thing and have it be our mascot!

I do read online comics Kayla, and yoU could probably guess about what. Yep, cats. here are three I'm currently reading.
Doctor Cat: http://doctorcatmd.com/2011-01-10/doctor-cat
which is about a cat who is a doctor.
Cat Vs Human: http://catversushuman.blogspot.com/
which is a women who does comics about her cats, and occasionally her dog.
And lastly Lackadaisy: http://lackadaisycats.com/
which is more than a just comic about cats. It is truly awesome and I recommend it 100%.

My music recommendations are
Katie Costello, and her song Ships in the Night:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl9Rmx2ySC8
Al Stewart, and his song Year of the Cat [I just can't sut up about cats tonight!]:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QM7LR46zrQU
Amy MacDonald, and her song Love, Love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mTpGECQjj4

I also might get a Twitter and Tumblr, not sure. I'll let you know how Katie Costello, my efforts to get a chicken,Twitter, and Tumblr work out!
Bye!<3
P.S. Did I not mention the chicken? Well I want a rooster. I shall name him Colin. Colin the rooster [lol].

In which I write stuff

I'm back home for a week for two reasons. 1) We're having our annual yard sale which has been something of a tradition for as far back as I can remember. 2) This coming week my church does this thing for children called the Daily Vacation Bible School and I help out with making the snacks, decorations and crafts. Last year's theme was the high seas so we transformed the whole church into a big ship with a mast and everything. This year's theme is something about pandas so we're making the church into a bamboo forest.

Adam, what sort of farm do you live on? One with animals and stuff or just crops, or a mix of both? And that's cool that you're getting into vlogging and making trock, good luck with both of those things. Unfortunately, I don't really know any Canadian bands that aren't already well known. Though I do like IAMX and The Asteroids Galaxy Tour if you haven't heard of them (neither is Canadian).

Katie, I've heard that Kinder Surprise Eggs were not available in the states, but not Mars Bars. I know how you feel about cleaning your room too, every year I have a massive 3-4 day spring cleaning of my room to purge all the unnecessary things and I usually give it away or sell it in our yard sale.

Kate, I've never had a scrapbook before just because I never would feel like making one. I do think they're pretty and a nice way to remember things, but I guess it's just not suited for me... because I'm so lazy or something.

Kira, that website was really cool! I went and checked out all the different subjects and sadly enough I ended up doing better in french than I did in english grammer (damn you grammer *shakes fist*). As for food: CHOCOLATE, chocolate is amazing! But if that doesn't count then I would say pasta, I love pasta of almost every kind.

Campion, I haven't seen the third Transformers yet, but I'm planning on it. I've enjoyed the first two movies, as you mentioned yourself, on a purely action and explosion sort of way.

Deidra, like you I am a generation one Pokemon fan, my original favourite pokemon was Butterfree just because it was a butterfly and I was obsessed with those when I was little. Now I'd have to say I like Gengar, Beedrill, and Tentacool. I'm not completely against the newer generations though because I have Pokemon Black and I adore Darumaka, Snivy, and Audino from there.

My flower sprouts. : ) They're only a couple cm high so far.
To bring this to an end I guess I'll just ask you guys about webcomics. Do you read any? Have any recommendations? Not even know/care what they are? I'll recommend three here: Hark! A Vagrant by Kate Beaton (a Canadian!) Her comics are usually funny and come along with little interesting history facts. Cyanide & Happiness by Kris, Rob, Matt, and Dave. It's very funny and should be taken with a grain of salt. Finally, Scandinavia and the World by Humon. I love the representation of Finland in this comic, he's probably my favourite character (that and his coat of arms is awesome). Check those out sometime if you're bored or in need of a laugh.

Nostalgia

My week has been filled with nostalgia, partly since my niece Jemma is here visiting, and partly because I have been playing a great of Pokémon. It has all been a lot fun, but also very tiring. I have been taking afternoon naps with Jemma, since I have been getting up much earlier to babysit her, as my parents are working. I have also been forced to watch children's television shows once again, and I think I may be going slowly insane. A person can only take so much.

I recently achieved a goal of mine that I have been working on for a long time. I completed the Pokédex on my Yellow Version game pack. I have been slowly working on it since around March or April. I caught all 151 Pokémon, including Mew using the glitch/cheat. Generation I is always my favourite, and will always be what I consider 'true' Pokémon. My favourite Pokémon are Squirtle, Lapras, and Eevee. What are your favourites?
I have never really thought of any of the legendaries as favourites, because I thought it was cliché that people always chose them as their favourites or filled their 'dream parties' with them, but Mew was always my favourite of that type. Mostly because it was so cute, and it was very powerful in the movie.
I think I will start a generation II game soon, and try to complete that game's Pokédex as well. It was a fun challenge, even though you don't really get anything out of it. Professor Oak just congratulates you, and the game designers show you a certificate that says that you completed the Dex.

I know exactly what you mean about procrastination, Kayla. Whenever there is something important that needs to be done, I suddenly think of dozens of fun things that I want to do, but when I have time to relax, I can't think of anything, and the ideas that I thought were fun just seem boring. Also, you should show us how your sunflowers are coming along.
Adam, I don't really listen to music all that much, especially in the summer. I listen to most of my music in the winter, during the long bus rides too and from school. I also get up pretty early in the morning for school, so I usually end up sleeping on my bus rides as well. Music is amazing, and I love it, but it isn't something that I really think about too often. Furthermore, zebras.
Katie, I didn't  know that you didn't have Mars Bars in the U.S. That's just depressing! Mars Bars are great. Well, they're alright. Do you have like, a substitute chocolate bar that we Canadians don't have to make up for it? Also, I usually always keep my room clean (I'm kind of a neat freak), so it always makes me chuckle when people say it takes them a long time to clean their rooms. Even the spring cleaning only takes me an hour or two.
Your new blog looks really great Kate. I am looking forward to reading more from you. Well, more that isn't a.W.o.A related. I don't really do scrapbooking, because I like to look at the things I collect. I do however have a Wall of Stuff that is full of art and other things, and a cork board with cards and stuff. I will show you another time.
I don't really have a favourite food, Kira, because like you, I think that food is just good. I'm not picky, and I'll try just about anything, to a certain extent. I don't I could ever be a vegetarian though. I can understand the grounds for it, but I enjoy meat. I would like to try it sometime in the future, just to see how I would do with it. I do have a favourite drink though, and that would be iced tea.
Campion, I have never watched any of the Transformers movies, and I do not really intend to watch them. They are just not the type of movie that I like.

Anywho, this has been a really long week, and it isn't even over yet. So don't forget to be awesome, and Poké-on!

This tittle Is As Unoriginal As A Michael Bay Film

Recently I went to see Transformers 3 with some of my brothers. It was definitely better than the last one but then again, saying that this film was better then the last one is like saying that getting your finger chopped off is better than your entire arm. Usually when I watch a film I have a few things things that I look out for, like good plot, interesting character development, decent acting, a coherent plot line. But this film seemed to lack most (if not all) of these aspects. Based on those points, the film was terrible. But then I remembered that this was a Michael Bay film. His usual films involve lots of explosions, women whose sole purpose in the film is to be Michael Bay's personal Barbie dolls, crap loads of action, explosions, giant robots beating the crap out of each other and explosions. With this in mind I saw it a second time and thought that it was FREAKING AMAZING!

The visuals were awesome, the special effects are some of the best that I have ever seen. Not only that but it has two of my favorite actors in it, Hugo Weaving and Leonard Nemoy. However, I really do hate the person they got replace Megan Fox in this one. She was just absolutely terrible, I cringed every time she spoke. So if you are going to watch the Transformers film don't expect anything deep or thought provoking , just go along for the action. So anyway, what are your guys thoughts on the movie (if you have seen it)?

Food

Okay, so it's twelve ten, I can't sleep, and I'm sitting in my room, typing this and feeling hungry. I have an unhealthy obsession with food, as you may be able to tell.

My friend once stole my food during a Tae Kwon Do tournament...my reaction wasn't pretty. In my defence, I hadn't eaten for five hours, and I had been running around for all of those five hours, participating in my events.

Favourite foods, anyone? I'm a vegetarian, so my favourite is probably...actually, scratch that. I don't have a favourite. Food in general is amazing.

On a side note, go to freerice.com, everyone. For every question you get right, ten grains of rice are donated to people who need it.

I'm going to keep this short, so I'll go to my recommendation. Ray Bradbury. Love him.

Harry Potter, Trock and More Great Things

My thoughts on Harry Potter, for those who want to read them, are here. SPOILERS!... Yeah, so I decided it'd be fun to start my own personal blog so you can check that out if you want.  I really do think that you have to have read the books to be really attached to the plot and the characters.  When I was younger, like 7ish, the movies used to scare me.  I did finally start reading the books when I was in 5th grade and I finished the 6th in 6th grade.
Then I had to wait for the last book to come out... and I'm not good at waiting.

Deidra... I like all of the songs on Still Got Legs and it is soo hard to choose which I like best.  Though I would have to say Nightmares and Kiss the Girl stick out to me the most.  I love Liam's voice (all of their voices are good).
Adam, I can't wait to hear your songs and How I Met Your Mother is one of my favorite tv shows.  I'm not sure which bands aren't well known internationally, but Rascal Flatts is the best country band, I think.  There's also this singer that I like, Clueso, but he's from Germany.  My friend, who was a foreign exchange student last year, showed us a music video in class.  I can't understand German but I look up the translation of the songs and it just makes them more great.

Today my father and I went to this craft store and started to look in the scrap-booking section and that got me really wanting to make a scrapbook.  I was wondering if you guys have ever made a scrapbook.  That will be my question...

In more Doctor Who related stuff, I have made it to the 11th episode of the Season 1.  Since I can only watch it when I'm at my mom's, it'll probably take me a long time to catch up, and that's a bummer.  My favorite quote of the series so far is "Just this once, everybody lives" which Charlie also says on "Travelling Man."

Excitement and things

Hello, and welcome to a two part blog post.
Part One: Excitement.

My sister's back from her trip to Australia! That's about it...

Part Two: Things.

I got Royal Mail the other day, it was strange because I forgot why. Then I remembered I order A Midsummer's Night Dream off Alibris, and that it was coming from the UK. It came with a bookmark that had the Morse Code Alphabet. Also, something that just happened, I ate a Mars Bar. We don't have them in the states, so my sister brought two back from Australia, that and Tim-Tams I think is what its called. Anyway I tried it, not sure I liked it too much. I was expecting it to taste, well different. It was really rich so now I feel a bit sick, death by candy.

Moving on to Trock. I really like Nightmares, Traveling Man, Mr. Pond, Silence and the End of All Things, and Still Not Ginger. If I had to narrow it down it would be Traveling Man. Also, I think its cool you started a Trock band Adam, I can't wait to hear your finished album. Also I'm not sure if I know any musicians that you guys don't know...

Changing topics again to Harry Potter. I'm only on the third book, and have seen up to the fifth movie. Please don't spoil anything so I can enjoy the last book when I get there. So far Harry Potter really means nothing to me. I feel it would have been better if I read them as they were coming out or if I started earlier. I wish I didn't feel that way, but I do and there's not much I could do to fix it.

I cleaned my room, and I must let you know this was a three day process. It got bad. Anyway I go through the effort of getting ride of stuff I didn't need, use, or want and my sister comes home and makes a mess of it. Just like she didn't appreciate anything I did to make it look nice. I mean you can't tell ALL the work I did because most of was organizing, but still.

I've been writing this throughout the day, I found it easier to remember what to write. SO I guess I'll go.
 Bye!♥
P.S. Some Morse Code:
dah-di-dit
di-di-dah-dit
dah
dah-di-di-dit
dit-dah
Can you guess what I said?

Trock

I get the feeling that I don't write enough lately.
It's been a dull week, I've spent most of it working on the farm, (oh yeah, I live on a farm). I've been trying to work on some projects. I started brainstorming ideas for my youtube channel, I started working on songs for a Trock album with my newly formed band "Medusa cascade". So far I've written "The Last Centurion", "The Ballad of Sarah Jane" and "Don't change". I'm fairly proud of it so far, but obviously there's so much work to be done yet, don't expect anything soon :)

In other Adam related news, I got a laptop for college, it's shiny and stuff. I've started writing letters again, I think it's a great way to keep in touch. I also started playing my wii again. I'm in love with "How I met your mother". I'm starting at season one and I'm almost onto season two.

Anyone have any good bands who are big in their country but not internationally. For example, with Ireland everyone knows U2, but only Irish people really know The Coronas and The Blizzards. Check them out. Now.

Anyway, this post didn't end up that long but what the heck I said what I had to say.

Procrastination is one of my biggest motivators.

Campion brought up a very good point in his post on wednesday. Summer break for me is probably the time of the year when I get the least amount of things done despite all the free time to do it. During the school year I'm constantly putting off doing homework to do other things, but as soon as summer comes it's like I can't think of anything I want to do besides lay around or go swimming. Maybe it's the heat, I don't know.

I did get to go strawberry picking with my family a couple days ago, though, so now we have lots of fresh berries to eat. I planted some dwarf sunflowers a while ago and they are finally starting to sprout. I'm not very good at taking care of plants (I usually end up killing them by over or underwatering them) so I hope that these will survive. I also ended up reading Zombies vs. Unicorns, Divergent, one smaller book and four volumes of manga in the past week. Z vs. U was a really good book, I like how it was a bunch of separate short stories and you should check it out if you haven't already. Also looking back I realize in my first post I said team unicorn, but I think I've converted.

Katie: I am a huge animal fan so I'm not sure I have a favourite, but I do really like polar bears (is that cliche for a Canadian?). The only time I've seen them in a zoo was a long time ago in Winnipeg and it was so hot that summer that I felt really bad for it. Zoos in general kind of make me sad.

Kira: I got into Harry Potter first through the movies when I was little. I ended up reading the fourth novel first because I was little and I wanted to read the biggest book that I could find that still looked interesting and that was it. After that I went back and reread the whole series start to finish. That was when all the books had already been released so I didn't care when the last book came out. My sister did though and when she bought it and finished reading it I immediately went and read the "19 years later" section at the end because I figured I would never read the books anyways. Oh how wrong I was.

*minor movie spoilers ahead*
As predicted I did cry lots during the movie. It was really good though, I really have no complaints except for them not actually showing Fred's death scene. My favourite part was when McGonagall called the statues to arms, I was probably as excited as her when she did that. Snape's story affected me more from the movie than when I read it in the book I have to admit and his death made me cringe and cry. Neville made me smile whenever I saw him because I was thinking about how much he'd changed, especially when he was facing the werewolves. And at the very end of the movie I couldn't help but think, "Oh my god, Harry's son has Justin Bieber hair..." It made me shake my head and sigh.

P.S. Thumbs up for Green Day, they rock!
P.P.S. Do you guys think I write too much? I feel like I write too much, but I'm not sure if I can help it...

Still Not Ginger

So it seems that most everyone has either seen the final Harry Potter movie, or intend to see it. Personally, I thought it was brilliantly done. Although there were some scenes left out from the book, what was put into the movie was very elaborately done.

I think my favourite scene would have to be the Gringott's scene, because it took me back to the first book, when Harry gets his first look into the wizarding world. It also showed a different, more dangerous side to a place that originally seemed so quiet and secure. I also loved that the dragon looked pretty much how I imagined it in my mind as I read it. What were you're favourite scenes (from either the movie or book, if you haven't seen it)?
There seems to be a lot of animosity towards the Neville-Luna scenes from the movie, since there was never any indication of such things in the book, but I found it quite cute. Even though they don't end up together in the end, I'm sure they do feel some sort of emotions for each other, having gone through so much together. Maybe it isn't the whole 'let's get married and have children' sort of feelings that Harry and Ginny and Hermione and Ron have for each other, but more of a 'Holy crap I don't want you to die please don't die on me' sort of thing.

Kira, I've kind of always been a fan of the Harry Potter movies since I was old enough to watch and understand them, but I only read the books last summer, in time to know everything before part one came out. That's when I truly started calling myself a Harry Potter fan/nerd.  I know for a fact that it's something that has changed me, and I only hope that it is strong enough to last through generations.

Katie, you somehow managed to read my mind from across the miles and miles of nothingness that separates us and show everyone my favourite zoo animal already. The White Bengal Tiger has been my favourite zoo animal ever since I was younger and I played Zoo Tycoon on my computer. I think I may have seen them when I was younger and visited the Toronto Zoo with family, but I don't remember. I do remember bringing home a stuffed animal of one, though I can't find it.

I have been listening to Still Got Legs over and over again so much lately, it's so good. If I absolutely had to pick a favourite, I think it would be Nightmares, but I don't know, because they are all so good. Big Bang Two and Still Not Ginger are also really good. What about you guys, which ones do you like?

It's nice to hear that there is a real Nerdfighters community in New Zealand, Campion. Besides Kayla, I think I live to far north in Ontario to really meet many other Nerdfighters, and converting people around here would be like getting Nerdfighters to commit worldsuck. It would be pretty difficult. Also, I agree with you, breaks from school can be a real relief, but also really boring.

My small town has been made slightly bigger for the time being. We are currently giving residence to around 700 evacuees from northern reservations that are in forest fire danger zones. The two primary schools and our arena are serving as shelters for them. I've been helping set up for them and will be helping out at one of the schools. Hopefully things will clear up for them and they will safe to go home soon.

Anywho, dftba!

The Mystery Nerdfighter

We have a fairly tight Nerdfighter community here in New Zealand. Someone has writing DFTBA in chalk in various places around Wellington (my countries capital). We have idea who it is and we can only assume that it is a Nerdfighter. This person is kinda like the Nerdfighting Banksy.

Also, school just ended!! YAY!! No school for the next two weeks. It's funny, for the last few weeks I've been looking foreword to the holidays but now that school is over, I have nothing to do. I'm in the same routine everyday, get up, check Facebook, have lunch, go on YouTube, play video games, pretend to study, go to bed. I just realized that school was the only thing to stop me going from dying from boredom, *sigh* and it's winter so I can't go outside either.

I feel as though I am the only nerd is not excited about the new Harry Potter movie. Don't get me wrong, I love the books (I even cried when I read the Deathly Hallows) but I never really cared for the films. I always compare the films to the books and I end up disappointed. But when I tell this to people I feel like I'm insulting their entire childhood. For me, Harry Potter ended when I read the last book.

So before I go I leave you with a question, how do you guys feel about the last Harry Potter movie? Are you excited? Do you even care about Harry Potter? I want to know what you guys think.

So until next week

Tuesday-Kira's Back!

I am so sorry! I am an idiot who forgot about making a post. This is bad. I'm known for never forgetting something like that.

Well. Katie, I object to zoos on moral grounds, so I don't have a favourite zoo animal. I'm weird like that. And in a lot of other ways...

So, I went to the midnight premier of Harry Potter, Friday morning. What did everyone think? There were parts that I loved and parts that I hated. But overall, I think it was a good way to end the series that has captivated us all for so long.

I was only nine when the final book came out. I was stuck on the other side of the globe from home, so I couldn't go to the release. My mom did, dragging my dad with her, and she got my sister and I two copies. One for her, one for me, so we didn't kill each other to decide who got it first. Three days hiding from newspaper...

I became a Harry Potter fan when I was four. 2001. I couldn't have started in '97, seeing as I was born that year. What about you guys? How long have you been fans? What were your reactions when the last book was released?

Music recommendation...Green Day. Enough said. I love them.

Kira

Creative Title Here

Campion: Hopefully by now you are feeling better.  Some youtube channels I recommend are thatzak, nerdzrl, and elmify.
Deidra, Kettle Corn is kind of hard to describe... I can only give you a link to what it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kettle_corn It's a really good snack.
I'm still new to vlogging, but I'd really recommend for you to try it Adam.  It's a lot of fun.
Which zoo did you go to Katie?  The zoo is absolutely my most favorite place, especially the Henry Doorly Zoo, which is in a city near my town.  My favorite animal at the zoo would have to be either Tigers, Lions or the penguins.

So I can't do that thoughts from places styled video.  Gravity kind of made my laptop fall and it's hard-drive got ruined.  My dad has put in a new hard drive, but it's a bummer that I lost a lot of files, but luckily nothing was extremely important.
I never thought that I was a big fan of Harry Potter until about 2 weeks ago.  With all the excitement the final film has brought, I've turned into a major fan-girl.  I have not seen the movie yet, but hopefully I will within a few days with a friend.  I am so excited and impatient.  From Twitter, it seems everyone with a heart cried... I read the books and have heard that, yes, they did the book justice.
Still Got Legs by Chameleon Circuit came out recently.  Alex Day (Nerimon) upload the play list to his website around 7pm my time.  I listened all the way through it and thought it was amazing!  I never really listened to the band before but now I have both of their albums on my Ipod.  The music also encouraged me to go back and watch Doctor Who, starting with the 2005 season.  It's kind of hard to do since I live in the US, but whenever I'm over at my mom's I'll get on netflix and watch some.  I'm up to Season 1, Episode 7 and it's already my favorite tv show.

That's all I have to say today!

Zombies

So I'm lying in my bed all ready to fall asleep, and I start thinking about better ways to do things. How to cut spending and be more efficient with time, energy, the usual. I can feel myself drifting off to rem sleep, and suddenly I say to myself, "fuck, I forgot to write a post." Yup. I really need to remember these kinda things better!
I went to the zoo on Friday. It was a different zoo, out of state that was supposed to have a wider range of animals. It was a lot of fun, because it was just me and my mom spending time together. I love the lions and tigers. I would show you a photo, but my computers being difficult. So here is one off Google, the tiger looked like this one so I  see no real harm.

Some YouTubers:
ICOEPRproductions, his name is Sammy and he is really funny. He just hit 900 subscribers or so.
savanamazing, is a girl named Savannah and she is a really random, awesome person.
naveregnide, Evan is about the best person, ever.
redhairedgirl35, her name is Hilary and she's fun to talk to and be around. She's full of creativity.
ThePatrickWorld, Patrick rambles a lot, but he has one of those voices that you can just listen to. He should be a narrator.
NaTaLie7134, is that awkward and random girl. Her all around nerdiness is something more than awesome.
And finally a guy I found through the nig actually, zetidoburrito. Tyler is just starting out on YouTube, with only forty-one subscribers. He seems like he'll do very well despite his low status.
Only one book comes to mind and that is Saving Max by Antoinette van Heugten. It's a thriller murder mystery kind of thing. I wouldn't knock it though. It was absolutely an amazing read. Also Deadline by Chris Crutcher. I'm really tiered, so I think I'll end with a question and go. What's your favorite animal at the zoo?
Bye!♥

So, I saw Harry Potter last night. It was good, it was very good. I'm just delighted that they did justice to the book. Also, I quite enjoyed the Luna-Neville bit.

Kate: I've never been mistaken for scottish, but then again I've never been to America either. I think that it's more often scots who are mistaken for Irish and they probably get a little annoyed 'bout that.
Katie: I'm sorry to say I don't conform to the stereotype at all, although I know a couple who do :)
Campion:Check out Wills odyssey on youtube, he's very talented both as a musician and as a comedian.
Deidra: I'm doing collegeat 17 because I grew up in a very small town and by some coincidence I was the only person who started in junior infants (kindergarten) so I just skipped ahead a year. I went to a boarding school from the ages of 11 to now, so I'm used to being away from home.
I'm considering starting a vlog in the coming weeks, anyone have any tips?
Anyway, 'til next week

I wasn't sure what to write, but it ended up being pretty long anyways.

Well, the day has finally come. Deidra and I are going to see the very last Harry Potter movie today at 7 p.m. because we don't get a midnight premiere in Thunder Bay. I am so excited to finally see the second half of the Deathly Hallows (and figure out why the heck Harry is falling off a cliff with Voldemort in the movie trailer). At the same time though, I really really don't want to see it because I know there won't be any more movies coming after this one. I'm not sure how many of you are Harry Potter fans, but if you are, you're probably feeling the same as me. I have no doubt that I'm going to end up bawling in the theatre (unashamedly) seeing as I did during part one. Movies and books make me emotional sometimes, especially if they're as good as the Harry Potter series is. Don't judge.

Adam, you asked me what I wanted to go to university for and, honestly, I'm still not sure. I'm thinking something in the field of biology maybe to do with animals or bugs. I need to decide by November at the latest though because that's when I have to apply to the universities I want to go to. It's just so hard to decide what I want to do because I like so many things.

As for Youtube recommendations... I haven't been regularly watching Youtube for a couple months so I'll just list a couple channels I like.
rodders153 - already has over 12000 subscribers, but he's really funny and slightly offensive (just writing that as a warning) you should still check him out though
bloodrunsclear - has 5000 subscribers, mainly makes fake movie trailers that I think are wonderful, interesting fact: this channel made a video that got me into the Leviathan series by Scott Westerfeld
1KidsEntertainment - 11000 subscribers, the makers of the Pokemon Abridged Series which I think is hilarious, but you can decide that for yourself
I guess that's all, looking through my subsciptions I realized that I'm not actually subscribed to anyone that doesn't already have quite a few subscribers. Well, minus a few people who make AMVs, but I'm not sure of you're interested in that kind of thing.

Deidra was right about the book recommendation thing, it all depends on what type of books you like to read. I like mostly fantasy and fairytale type books (and manga). However some authors I would recommend are Christopher Pike (he writes awesome horror/thriller/sci-fi stuff), Scott Westerfeld, and Kelly Armstrong.

I Solemnly Swear

Only one more day until the awesome-ness that is Harry Potter! Kayla and I are going to see it tomorrow night, and I am so excited for it. At the same time, I'm also hoping time will slow down a tad and make me wait a bit longer, because I don't want all of it to end. I only read the books last year, in the summer before a watched the first part of the last movie, but I've always liked the movies. And now I've become a real Harry Potter fan, I feel like watching the last part will be both amazing and sad.

I haven't really done much in the past week. The only really interesting thing is that I've been watching Torchwood, and I really love it. Not as much as I love Doctor Who, but it's still really good. I'm about halfway through the second season, and am hoping that I'll be caught up soon to be able to watch the third episode of the new (fourth) season on tv. Since the third season is only five episodes, and I watch two episodes every night, it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for all of your opinions on my classics question. It helped me to put that into a different perspective. I especially liked the quote Adam gave: 'A Classic is something everyone wants to have read and no one wants to read.' That's especially true with me. I want to read Wuthering Heights, because I heard it was a good read, but I tried and I don't know if it's really something I'll enjoy. So I put it back on my shelf for now, and I'll try again later.

Adam, the fact that you are going to college a year early scares me. I barely have an idea of what I want to do in my last year of high school, let alone after that. So why are you going a year early? Did you skip a year when you were younger?
I feel bad for you Katie. I hate being told to clean. That's probably the only reason why I keep my room tidy. It's good to hear you found a math tutor. Like you, I'm also not a fan of math. It's my least favourite subject, but I'm not too bad at it.
A thoughts from places sounds like a wonderful idea, Kate. It would be really cool to see the area you come from and hear what you think about it. I've never tried kettle corn, is it some sort of candy, or like a popcorn type of thing?
I hope you feel better soon Campion, and please leave us a link to your YouTube channel so we can all see your epic Shakespearean rap battle! We are all really interested in seeing it. Also, what kind of books do you like to read? I'm more of a fantasy reader, so if you aren't into that sort of stuff, my recomendations won't be very good.

Anyway, I'm off. I hope you all get the chance to see the movie this weekend. Don't forget to be awesome, my Nerdfighter friends!

Lack of energy

I have no energy to write whatsoever (I'm sick), so I will try to not write a massive load of generic crap and I will try to keep it brief.

The rap battle that mentioned last week went rather well. My classmates seemed to really enjoy it and the video even made it's way onto YouTube (didn't go viral but hey, it was a lot of fun). That song taught me an important lesson, it doesn't matter if you look like an idiot. So long as your having more fun than the person laughing at you everything will be alright.

As a question to the rest of you guys, do any of you have any recommendations for YouTube channels? Like some smaller ones the usually go unnoticed but still have awesome content? Also I'm looking for awesome book and music recommendations. Thanks for any help that you give me.

Well i'm about to vomit so I'm gonna go to bed.

As always

Fun Time at the Festival

Kira, I found your book review quite interesting and Rebecca has found it's way onto my "To Read" list.
Campion, I remember the days a few friends and I would all play Pokemon.  We don't anymore, but when we did, it was always so much fun.
Deidra, usually I would consider a classic to be a story that is old but people still enjoy.  Stories like The Lion King and Great Expectations, are stories I'd consider classics, but then when I think about it, there are some newer books that I would consider classics, like Harry Potter. Most people love the series and  it wouldn't surprise me that the future generations will enjoy it as well.
Kayla, your days sounds like it was a lot of fun.  I'm usually a fan of museums other tourist attractions.
Adam, Katie pretty much summed up the Irish stereotype that some Americans have.  I think I know the answer to this question but I thought I'd ask anyway... is it true the the Irish and Scottish hate being mistaken for one another?

This weekend was my town's annual festival.  It was the 25th year I believe.  I helped out at my school's sport's club tent with my volleyball team.  We sold hot dogs and drinks and were more than likely the most reasonable priced stand in the park.  It was extrememly hot, about 100 degrees F, or 38 degrees C.
Every year it's a tradition for my family to buy Root Beer and Kettle Corn, both are amazing.  We didn't stay to watch the parade because it was hot and the parade is pretty much the same every year.

I might make a vlog about this weekend. It would be like a Thoughts from Place videos, but more like Thoughts from Around Town.  I will work on making it and if I think it is good enough, I will post it on Youtube.

Its late and I'm not creative enough for titles, my apologizes.

Sorry its not going to be Sunday when you read this. My mom had the day off and made it the day-we-do-nothing-but-clean-because-I-say-it-is. I really hate these days. Anyway I'm going to address some of the things below now.
Kate the fourth of July seems ages ago to me, not sure about you! I have successfully found a math tutor who works really cheap, but thank you for the offer.
Kira I have never heard of the book Rebecca I would love if you could leave the author in the comments on this or in your next blog post, thanks!
Campion I'm jealous of the fact you got to play Pokemon under a desk during school, and the fact that you can find people still willing to play! I do hope you share your rap battle of Shakespeare's Henry the fourth part 1.
Deidra I'm so glad you brought the whole classic thing to my attention. I have thought long and hard about my reply. A classic is something that can jump the barrier from old to new. Ex. Jane Eyre, classic love story. A love story that can cross between the old and new barrier and still be loved. Oliver Twist is one of my favorite classics.
Kayla your trip to Ottawa sounded really fun, and I would love to see photos.
And for Adam, some stereotypes. Drunk, catholic, red hair, freckles, bad temper, and leper cons[one word?]. I actually watched an Irish movie called The Race, that pretty much fit all those stereotypes, so feel free to defend your land!
I had a long, boring week, I can't wait until my sister gets back from Australia, and I think I'm done.
Bye!♥

Classy

First off, sorry that I didn't leave any links but I haven't really gotten into any websites to link to. I might be starting a Youtube vlog next week so I'll keep you guys posted on that!

Deidra, I thought your question on classics was really interesting, and to be honest I'm not fully sure what makes a classic. My experience of classical literature tends to be that their appeal lies in the powerful use of language, compared to more modern literature (such as Harry Potter) where the appeal lies in the immersive plotline and relatable characters. I suppose both are perfectly acceptable interpretations of the art form of writing a book. If all else fails, I personally love the Mark Twain quote: A Classic is something everyone wants to have read and no one wants to read.

Kayla, your trip to Ottawa sounded really cool, what do you want to study in the university there?

The days are very long lately, I find myself thinking about college a lot..... It's all a bit worrying and overwhelming, I'd just love to know how my exams went......

Also, all my friends are gone to Oxegen (a big Irish music festival) today to see my favourite bands Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters and I couldn't go because apparently you need this stuff called money... but oh well, as the songs says  "L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N."

Anyway, it's my time to go for this week, but out of interest do North Americans have a stereotypical view of Ireland? I've always kinda wondered about that.

Adventures in Ottawa

Sorry for making such a late blog post, I was out all day today with no chance to come online.

The reason for this is I'm in Ottawa, Canada's capital city! I've been here a few times before already because my older sister goes to university here. It's nice seeing her, she got a summer job in Ottawa so if I didn't come I wouldn't have been able to see her until Thanks Giving or something.

Ottawa is a really pretty city in my opinion and I'm even considering coming here for university as well. The weather is really nice too, if not a tad too hot on some days for my taste. I honestly prefer my northern town where winter can get pretty harsh, but summer is fairly warm.

As for sightseeing, I went to the Parliament buildings already. I climbed the Peace Tower (the main tower with the clock in it), and got to see the Parliament stray cats. My favourite part was seeing the library, though, because it has tons and tons of books and it's the only part of the Parliament that survived the fire that burnt everything else down back in 19something. The war memorial right near the Parliament buildings had guards there with those furry, black hats so I got a picture with them and managed to see the changing of the guards.

I got to go to the Nature Museum which had tons of cool things in it. My favourites being the giant turtle fossil, the world's largest and smallest land mammals known to have existed, the live bug collection, and the rocks (as boring as that may sound, they were actually really cool). I also went to the War Museum which was very informative and sad at times. They had a couple of actual letters from different people in different wars and they were really sad to read.

I'm still hoping to go to the National Art Gallery before we head back home. I've already been there like three times or something, but I never get tired of seeing all of the neat pieces of art there.

As for Deidra's post yesterday: In my opinion a classic is something that is sort of revolutionary and new for its time, but it stays relevant and interesting for ages afterwords so it keeps getting reprinted and reread until it magically achieves the "classic" status.

Again, sorry for the late post.

P.S. I probably would have posted at least one picture with this, but I'm on crappy hotel internet and it takes like forever to load stuff so I'm not even going to try right now. There should be pictures up on my personal blog later next week if you're interested.

Perception Filter

I don't know if anyone noticed, but I took all of the links from our first posts and put them in on the sidebar. Not all of us have links, because not everyone gave some, but I did a bit of detective work and found a few extra things. I couldn't find Campion's YouTube channel (hard as I tried) and Adam didn't leave anything.

I was looking at a discussion on the Ning this morning, and I want to know your opinions on it. What do you guys think of literary 'classics'? Are they classic only because of their age, or are the stories within classic? Do you enjoy them more than other books, or do you think they are just regular books that have been sort of over glorified?

That's my perception of them. The few I have read have been good books, but nothing so good as to place them above or beyond anything else I have read. I don't really think they are timeless or anything like that. Maybe it is more because of their age, and the fact that they are still being printed and read today. I don't really know.

Another thing I discovered this morning is that Gibberish is apparently a real language that you can learn to speak, with different dialects depending on what part of the world you are in. I tried to read a few sentences with it, but I think it might be impossible. Give it a try, you sound insane when you 'speak' it out loud.

One thing I did in the past week was get my hair cut. That may not sound like much to you guys, but with me it's kind of a big deal. Since about first grade, my hair has been past my shoulders, and worn in a ponytail every single day. And I mean every day. So finally, I decided it was time I changed things. It's now only about 2 inches long in most places, and sort of puffy at the top. There is a picture on my blog, if you want to see.

It may look and sound like a big change, but to me it hasn't been. I guess since I always wore my hair up, it doesn't really feel different; there was never really any hair blowing in my face or anything like that. Everything is just more, light.

Anyway, before this post becomes as long as forever, there is one more thing I want to say. Today is July 7, 2011. (I almost wrote 2010.) On this day, in history, sliced bread was sold for the first time, back in 1928, by the Chillicothe Baking Company in Chillicothe, Missouri. Now how is that for some perspective?

Wednesday- It rained... sort of

Well living in New Zealand you get used to the rain but the weather in New Zealand has a very sadistic sense of humor. During class it's a perfect day, a clear blue sky and not a cloud in sight. But the moment class starts, it rains... hard... really hard. Like my umbrella is literally disintegrating in front of my eyes. But surprise, surprise as soon as class starts up again, the sky is clear and it as if nothing had happened. Evidently everyone in my country is out to screw me over, even the weather. *sigh*

Well on a happier note, my English teacher was away today leaving my class completely unsupervised. So being typical nerds me and friend Thomas hid under our desks and played Pokemon, twas an awesome period. English has been an interesting class this year, I'm in the top English class for my year group (how in the hell I got in, I'll never know) so it is expected that we do a crap load of work and study, one of my friends even went into a lower class to avoid the work load. But I've done barely any real work or study. My teacher is even letting me research two of my favorite shows (Full Metal Alchemist and Death Note) for an English project.

Maybe I should say something about my friends at school to help you better understand my school, none of my friends (and I mean none of them) are sane, at all. Seriously, being in my circle of friends requires a severe mental unbalance of some sort. For example in English, we have to write a song about the Shakespeare play we are studying, which is Henry the fourth part 1. One group is doing a folk song, others are doing a barbershop quartet and some other friends of mine are doing a parody of never gonna give you up. What are me and my friends doing? Maybe the title of our song will you a clue, Henry the fourth part 1- a rap battle. Thats almost as awesome as the time we had a small rave party at lunch, fist pumping to the endless nyan cat.

So I really can't think of way to end this without it being really awkward so...

Tuesday-The Ramblings of Someone Who Knows Very Little

You may have been dreading this, but it has happened nonetheless. Kira, the girl who knows, well, nothing, has returned. Please excuse the comma splice. That last sentence didn't even make sense.

Has anyone else ever gotten their hopes up, then been let down? Obviously, you have. Everyone has. But has anyone ever had one of their closest friends sabotage your lifelong rivalry?

I'm kidding, of course. It's not a lifelong rivalry-I've only known the said rival for a year. But either way, we compete about everything. We asked another friend to judge one of our contests. Apparently, I'm king...but he's god.

But none of you want to hear about me. So let the ramblings go on to something interesting!

I warned you about spontaneous book reviews. The question is, are you ready for them?

The book Rebecca is one that I've always enjoyed. So why, you may ask, am I reviewing it now? The answer to that is...I don't know.

I'd love to give some deep philosophical reason, but I don't have one prepared. So I think I'll just write.

Rebecca is a very good book, with real characters and an interesting plot. I remember that when I read it for the first time, I was expecting to find out what the main character's name was. I was just waiting, thinking, okay, give us the name already.

I liked that we didn't learn it in the end. I didn't really feel like the story was about her as much as it was about Rebecca and Maximilian. She was just used to tell their story.

While Rebecca is a good book, it isn't superb. The narrator was my least favorite character, because she fell flat to me. She seemed like the most bland out of all the characters.

Impromptu book review over. Not like that was much of a book review.

I fear that this post is getting too long, so I'll leave it at this.

And It's on to Week Two

As probably all of you know, John Green announced his new book's title last week.  I was at the live show he held for the last hour.  I was there as he read us the first chapter.  It was amazing and I am very much looking forward to reading the book.
Also, Hank's video was hilarious.  The fact that he actually met a nerdfighter and humped that nerdfighters car... it was just phenomenal.

Also, Happy Fourth of July! I know it only really affects Katie and I, but I thought I should say.

Kira: I love books, and will probably like your "spontaneous book reviews."  I'm a Harry Potter fan myself.  I did read the Twilight series about three years ago.  I did enjoy the books, but not the movies.  I'm not that big of a fan (I prefer HP)  so I won't get offended if you say anything bad about it.
I love the Beatles, and other old bands. I also like the youtuber's music. My favorite being Tom Milsom.

Campion:  I would also like to attend Vidcon one day.  It's on my bucket list so I hope the Vlogbrothers continue planning the event for many years.  Also, please tell about you unicorn adventures. They sound amazing.

Deidra:  I prefer unicorns, but zombies are cool too. I'd say ninjas if it wasn't for Jack Sparrow.  My favorite color is Purple and my birthday is November 10.

Kayla:  It's cool that you and Deidra know each other already.  It makes me wonder if this was planned *suspicious face*   I do have a pets and they are all cats.  I have two orange tabbies, Ringo and Dakota, and they live with me.  My mom has a Maine Coon who's named Micah.

Adam:  You're not alone.  I like Math. In fact, it's my favorite subject in school.

Katie:  I love Whose Line is it Anyway and How I Met Your Mother. I am in the Nermie Army, too.  If you need a Math tutor... maybe I could help out, considering it is one of my favorite subjects, but we'd have to work out some way.

See you tomorrow Kira... well, I guess not 'see' but I mean, what else would I say.

7/03/2011

I'm bad with titles, so I'm not sure what to put? What day of the week is it again?

Hey, hi, hello! I'm Katie, the lovely person who writes on Sundays. I've currently only been awake for an hour, so I do apologize if I ramble or something. I think I'm going to start off answering the various questions.

1. How I became a Nerdfighter is a wonderfully weird tale. Being a fan of Doctor Who [and having a YouTube account] I decided to go on YouTube and see what content they had for Doctor Who. A few videos down and I saw a guy with red hair in the caption[Charlie], with the title Doctor Who? I watched it, liked, then didn't subscribe to Charlie for three months. After I did subscribe I found the vlogbrothers, and you know, BOOM Nerdfighter!  I told you it was weird.

2. Zombie's, Pirates, Purple, December eighth.
Two facts about my birthday is, 1. John Lennon died that day [1980], and 2. Jim Morrison had the same birthday[1943]. So a positive and a negative, isn't that nice!

3. I have a cat named Kristal [yes, like the drink], a dog nicknamed Bear [full name? Grisly Bear Johnson Jones Adams Jr. the Third. My brothers dog.], a guinea pig [not sure how to spell her name, its from an Anime my sister watches.], and two leopard geckos whose names I never remember!

I should probably let you know some general things.

Music: I'm obsessed with The Who, and my friends tease me to know end. This year in school we had to do superlatives for the kids in our class [its a small school] and mine was near the end, and I didn't know what they came up with, so I was a bit worried. Most likely to be The Who's band groupie. I hate them for that! However that's not the only band or genre of music I listen to. I like music from the 1940s' to the 1990s'. From Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, and The Monkees. To Bon Jovi, Queen, The Presidents of the United States, and Madness. I'm not actually a big fan of 70s' music, its got a lot of soul. I do like some modern music, but the only thing that comes to mind is Lady Gaga. I also like classical composers like Bach and Mozart. I like YouTube musicians like Alex Day, Chameleon Circuit, Tom Milsom, and Hank. I've never really listened to Country, Rap, Hip-Hop, things of that nature.

Television: Doctor Who, Top Gear, Torchwood, Star Trek, How I Met Your Mother, Whose Line Is It Anyway, Invader Zim, and most recently Franklin and Bash.

Other things: I live somewhere in the U.S., I'm a flexitarian, a part of the Nermie Army, I ramble obviously, I like using random colors, I LOVE art, I'm terrible at math [need a tutor!], I'm fourteen almost fifteen, I've just reached five foot, and I'll see ya tomorrow Kate!

P.S. I'll leave some links I guess.

Blogging is hard.... and stuff

Dia dhuit, my name's Adam and I'm the Irish guy who'll be writing on Saturday.

I'm 17 and became a nerdfighter shortly after stumbling upon "Alex reads Twilight". The rest, they say, is history.

Okay, coming from Ireland, a land where the people are heavily influenced by British media, I'm a huge fan of Doctor Who. My Dad loved it when he was young too and I guess I never had a choice, but would have needed one? Adore the show, especially the new episodes, although my Dad insists it was scarier when he was younger!

I have a passion for most things, sports, music, gaming, tv, writing, reading, etc. My favourite bands include Arctic Monkeys, Mother Mother, the Black Keys and of course Chameleon Circuit.

I'm 17 but I'll be going to college in September, I haven't got my results but unless I've drastically underachieved I'll be studying "Mathematical and Physical sciences" in UCD........anyone like math?..... I like math.........

I have to go now, so apologies that this is a little short but I'll make up for it next time, feel free to ask me all your Irish related questions :)

P.S. Unicorns, pirates, purple, September 12
P.P.S. No, no pets for me, although my little sister has a cat.

Friday the First

Hello, my name is Kayla and I'll be writing on Fridays. I'm not a morning person though so don't expect my post too early in the day, especially now that it's summer.

Like Deidra I also live in a small town in northern Ontario. It's only a half hour drive from Deidra's town and we go to the same highschool. We're really good friends and the only nerdfighters that we know of in our small community.

I first made a youtube account because I was watching a bunch of anime and wanted to keep track of it by favouriting it and stuff. I eventually moved on to other videos and my older sister was the one who introduced Charlie to me. From there I just started watching more videos and it wasn't until after Deidra made an account on the Ning that I did as well. (I was the friend that showed Deidra the videos.)

I really like to draw and read whenever I have time. I also like anime and manga even though I don't speak or understand Japanese (I really wish I could). I like to take pictures of bugs up close because I find them really interesting. Also I have a pet tabby cat named Daisy that's maybe 13 years old now and I love her to death even though she's so old and fat and lazy. Do you guys have any pets?

Some bands I like are Marianas Trench, Metric, The Postal Service, Greg Laswell, Green Day and Evanescence. And for Deidra I'd have to say unicorns, definitely ninjas, green and June 1.

Anyways that's about it for me. I'm travelling a bit today so I must go pack! DFTBA!

Kayla (This is my own blog.)

P.S. Happy Canada Day everyone! (even though most of you aren't Canadian I thought I should still say it)
