I'll add a title later

So sorry about missing my post last week. I went on a road trip with my college friends to Galway, it's a place in Ireland along the west coast. It was only about a three hour drive which isn't much but we stopped in all the towns on the way and made a day trip out of it. We stayed there for three nights and then went home. It was a really awesome trip, Galways an amazing city, the only thing I don't like is all the tourists. It seems to be really popular with Americans. It was a bit annoying with so many tourists, just some of the americans were really loud and trying to let everyone know that their great great something something grandfather was kinda irish. I find it annoying when people try and claim to be Irish, like I can accept as far back as grandparents but that's it.
So St.Patricks day was yesterday, I didn't do anything for it. It's very overhyped and commercial. It consists largely of random small parades in towns and drinking. And then people complain about being stereotyped? I think Irish people do drink way too much, I feel it's just a part of the culture though, like every town has loads of pubs. My local town has about 1000 people and 8/9 pubs. I suppose there's an element of truth to all stereotypes. People say Irish are drunks and collectively we do have a serious drink issue, people say Americans are fat and collectively they do have a serious problem with childhood obesity.
I'm not one to get offended by things people say about Ireland though. I think you need to be able to take a joke and not get all defensive about stuff. Although, I (and many others) did get really offended by a new shoe Nike released called "The Black and Tans", which is just in really bad taste. When the English occupied Ireland, they had a secret police who had a name which I forget but were known by everyone as the black and tans (because of their uniform). I know it was almost 100 years since ireland got independence and Nike said "it was intended to be light hearted" but to namr a shoe after a group of people whose notable achievements include burning villages and opening fire on the crowd during a football match. Whenever the IRA (Irish republican army) killed any of the black and tans, they responded by killing civilians. So yeah........ not to get all touchy but I found it in really bad taste for Nike to do that.
Sorry that I ranted quite a bit in this post. I'll make sure to make my next one happier :)
DFTBA
Adam
