Olympics, School, and Books

This year is the first year I've actually found interest in the Olympic Games - and it's the first year I have international friends - and I hope I'm able to watch the events I want to.

Instead of finding a livestream, I ended up watching NBC's broadcast of the Opening Ceremony.  It was amazing. My favorite bits were the ones with Voldemort and Mr Bean.  It angers me that NBC completely skipped the terrorist attack victim tribute and replaced it with a Michael Phelps interview.  I mean, come on! That's just so... American. It also bugged me how the NBC focused on the USA team as they came out.   We barely saw any of the teams that followed save for Great Britain.

I'm surprised by how much the Men's Archery peaked my interest.  I watched the entirety of the match for the gold medal.  It was so intense.  Everything had come down to the final arrow. The Italian archer got a ten (the best you could get), bringing victory to his team by one point.

School's starting here in two weeks.  Today we had our SOS (Student Orientation Staff) training day, and Wednesday will be the Freshman/New Student orientation.  Our schools also putting a big "Back to School Bash" for the community, and that's when we'll be getting our schedules for the year.  I really only want to go back to school for the first day and then never return.

I've started to read The Hobbit.  Hopefully I will finish by the time the movie comes out.  I'm only on page 8 and I rarely find time to just sit and read real books.  I do plan to read some once this post is published.

It is a habit of mine to go check the book section of every store I enter, and usually, I check around for John Green books. Every time I come by a copy of The Fault In Our Stars, I pick it up. For some reason, I just like holding this particular book.  When I pulled out a copy of Tfios from my local Wal-Mart's shelf, I was shocked to see it was a signed copy.  I didn't purchase it since I have a signed copy of my own, not that I wanted to buy it any.  If I had had a pen, I would have written a nerdfighter note, but alas, I did not.  I really hope the book goes to a good home.  All books deserve a loving home.
