Warning: Ron Rant Ahead

I don't really have much to talk about this week, mostly because I just don't feel like it so I'm just going to respond to a couple of things.

First, I like what Deidra said about how it's better to say 'I made a wrong choice' instead of 'Why does my life have to be like this'. I like to say that everything will just work itself out in the end somehow. So I'm not quite sure how that works into the whole fate situation. I'd probably say it's something like your decisions define what happens so I guess that's free will. If you've ever seen the movie The Adjustment Bureau that kind of shows how I think things work. It's like you have a set fate for something, but it can change depending on what happens around you and how you react to it. However, I'm not sure if I agree with the part of the movie that there are "people/angel/things" who make sure you don't get too far off track. So I guess my opinion is sort of a combination of free will and preordestined fate.... if that makes sense and is not too contradicting.

It's good to hear from you Adam. I hope you have a good time on your trip and relax, travelling isn't that bad unless you make it that way. I find if you don't worry too much about things like that they tend to go just fine. Being stressed won't do any good anyways. I'm sure your travels will all work out, but good luck all the same.

And now for the probably longest part of my post:

I am 100% on the side that Ron is a Gryffindor through and through. I read through a bunch of the comments and had a talk about it with Deidra yesterday and these are my reasons:

1) Yes, Ron has ambitions, but everyone does, it doesn't mean everyone is a Slytherin. I like to think that he just wants to prove his worth to his family. After all, he has so many siblings that have already done very well in school so he wants to live up to the same sort of level. (And not to be mean to Ron, he is one of my favourite characters, but he didn't exactly try that hard to become prefect in my opinion and the Slytherin chant says that they use any means to achieve their end.)

2) As for the whole "it's just because his whole family was in Gryffindor" or "he asked the hat to put him in that house" arguements, even with those factors I don't think it means he deserves his spot in Gryffindor any less. After all Harry asked to be put in Gryffindor and I think he is well suited for that house too. And not all families follow tradition like that (example: Sirius Black) so there's still the possibility of him being sent to another house, but he wasn't.

3) On that note, many comments were (stupidly) just saying that because Rowling put him there that's where he deserves to be, like she was god or something. That's not true though, she could have made a mistake (though I don't expect many seeing as how it's her series after all, but she is only human), but I think in this case her choice was justified. Which brings me to point...

4) Why he's really a Gryffindor. He's shown courage and bravery throughout the story. For example: The very first book when he sacrificed himself in the chess game so Harry and Hermione could go on to find the philosopher's stone. He followed Harry into the forest (following a trail of spiders no less), to the Ministry of magic to save Sirius, and to find the Horcruxes. Also even though he left that one time he did return to Harry and Hermione, that was brave considering he knew what he was up against and was thinking clearly now that he didn't have the Horcrux around his neck. Two other points of notice: he destroyed one of the Horcruxes, and he wore those horrible dress robes to the Yule Ball (haha, that took courage).

5) And as for the fact that he was so scared of doing certain things. Well, I like the quote that one person used in the comments that bravery is about facing your fears not having no fears at all. Repeating what I've already pointed out: Ron was scared of spiders, but he followed a trail of them into the forest. And it's not like Harry and Hermione and everyone else had absolutely no fears. I seem to recall them being scared on multiple occasions, but they faced them just the same, earning their spots there.

Aaaaaaannd that's it I think. Phew, that was a long one. I'll probably think of more things later on too, but I'll leave it at that for now. It'll be interesting hearing what you guys have to say, especially if you agree with him being a good Slytherin, seeing as I seem to be pretty strongly against him being anywhere else but Gryffindor. I hadn't really realized how adament I was on this topic until now.

Ta-ta for now!

P.S. - Lol for me saying I had nothing to talk about, I guess I did, but it was just a long response, nothing new.

The one where I come back and then don't say much.

Hi, sorry I haven't posted in so long but I didn't have a chance to post the last two saturdays. Anyway, I'm posting this a bit early because I'm actually getting up at 1:30 A.M. to go to Germany to visit friends. I'm very nervous because I've never flown or travelled much on my own before. I have to get a bus to Dublin Airport then fly to Dusseldorf airport and then get three trains to get to a little village called Schwerte where I'm getting picked up. It's a lot of pressure and I'm pretty scared. I couldn't get a camcorder so I'll be taking some footage on a crappy digital camera that has a video function. I might upload the footage to my channel which is called *spoiler*. Just joking my channel is called sllekmada which is incredibly uninventive I know.
Anyway it's probably best if I get a bit of sleep now before I leave. Wish me luck. :)

P.S. Sorry I didn't have time to reread your posts and respond to them.

No Apocalypse

It feels like it's been more than a week since my last post, though clearly it hasn't. Even though I love the holiday break, it gets a tad boring at the end, especially when I have homework that I should be doing. I mean, I want to get it done, I honestly do, but the procrastinator in me just won't die. Every time I get the mind to start, my mind drifts to another thing, which I have done countless times already this break and does not assuage my boredom at all. I think I actually want to return to school, if only to be reunited with my friends.

So I was on Mugglenet the other day, looking up something, and there was a discussion linked in the sidebar that caught my attention. Does Ron Weasley really deserve his place in Gryffindor house? I thought the idea was intriguing, so I checked it out. Apparently because of his great ambition, ego, and fear, some people think he could have had a place in Slytherin house. At first I thought the idea was ludicrous, Ron is a Gryffindor through and through. But after thinking on it for a bit, and over today, I have decided that Ron would have made a fair addition to Slytherin. He always had high ambitions; wanting to be Quidditch team captain and Head Boy. He didn't seem to mind how it happened, either, and didn't protest the 'use' of Harry's Liquid Luck to aid this.
I read through some of the comments, and about 99% of them are against this idea. Most of them state that Rowling put him in Gryffindor, so he must be one. Personally, I think that his inclusion in Gryffindor was more to keep the trio together and get them started in their friendship than a real in depth look into their characters. Harry could have been placed in either Slytherin or Gryffindor, and it was only his aversion to the house that kept him out of it. Hermione was a brilliant young which who would have made an excellent Ravenclaw. So who's to say that Ron wouldn't have made an ambitious Slytherin. It's not to say he would have been evil or anything. And we don't get his perspective when he is being sorted; maybe he was asking the hat the same thing Harry was.
Another interesting comment that came up was that all of Ron's family were in Gryffindor, so it was natural for him to fall into the same house. This may be true, that family lines tended to follow this pattern, but the Black family saw this exception with Sirius. The entire Black family were in Slytherin, but Sirius was in Gryffindor.
I'm interested in knowing what you all think of this, since it could go either way. Heck, Ron could have ended up in Hufflepuff. In the end, I think he deserved his place in Gryffindor, it is undeniable with everything he did, but his personality could have easily landed him in Slytherin.

I don't do New Year's resolutions, as I think that the entire basis makes them unattainable. Last year I did something called the Big, Fun, Scary List, which was basically a new year's resolution, but less strict. It's more like things I would like to see happen, or that I would like to try, but nothing that I have to 100% stick to. I don't think I even fulfilled half of what I had written for 2011.
Katie, I used to do the New Year's countdown when I was a bit younger, but after the New Year's that I spent away from my family due to a false move situation, I stopped doing it. I just stay up like as usual during the break. This year I didn't even notice it until about 10 minutes after when my mom came in to wish my a happy new year. I like your resolution of keeping positive and smiling more. I can also be pretty pessimistic, but I have found that pessimism sometimes makes the good times stronger. Or I say that to make myself feel better.
Kate, I hope your speech went well, and that you were able to remember everything. With such an awesome one, I have no doubt that it went fantastically. Also, when it comes time, Canada would be happy to have you for school. Or at least, I would be happy to have you in Canada. =D
You had a really good question, Kira, that I don't have a really good answer for. The idea of a preordained fate or future is a little far fetched for me. I think that life is just a series of actions that lead to consequences, and nothing is really pre-organized for us. I think that to think of life like that is to look on a negative side. Especially when bad things happen. It's better to say 'I made a wrong choice' instead of 'Why does my life have to be like this'. As for free will, I think we have a certain degree of free will, which is dependent upon different people and situations. Generally, we can do what we want. To me, there is no great being that says 'No, puny human, you cannot go outside today'. Life happens. It's a story that is being written as time goes on, not one that we are living through to the end. (wow, I sound kinda philosophical there.)
I hope your last year of high school will be a good one, Campion. My mind still has yet to come to terms that it is my last year, despite everything I have done to prove it wrong. What are your plans, if any, after this year? Because there will be an after, as there is no 2012 apocalypse. Please don't tell me you believe in that nonsense.
Adam, I miss you and hope that you have had a good holiday. Hopefully you will be up to writing this week, as we all miss your presence here. Also, still waiting on that channel name. *pleading look*

Long post has been exceedingly long, and thankfully at a decent hour. Happy New Year, I wish all of you the best of luck in 2012, and don't forget to be awesome! Thanks for a great half year of A Week of Awesome!

Start of a new year

Well it's the start of a new year. I'm just gonna say that I did not have a good year last year but I've sorted some things out so maybe things will go better for me this year ( I hope). 2012 marks my last year of high school and considering the dismal year I had this year I plan to make up for it this year. I plan to improve my film work a lot since I barley did anything on it last year and I also plan to regularly update my YouTube channel because I've been neglecting it an awful lot recently. One thing that I did manage to improve on last year was my art, it's as good as it's ever been and I think I may have found an art style that finally suits me.I'm not one to make a new years resolution but if there was something I wanted to improve on, it's to just be a more positive person. Being negative just did a lot of damage to me last year and just finding something to be happy about would be the thing to make my day.

I just wanted to thank you guys for a great year and lets see if we can keep this thing going for the rest of 2012 (assuming we don't all die but I'm sure we'll be fine). And don't forget that if you guy's are ever in New Zealand be sure to look me up your always welcome. Well I need to keep this brief because it's late at night and I've been trying to upload this bloody video for the entire day, so maybe I can show you guys next week but anyway...

Lets have an awesome year guys

I Give Up...

Sorry I didn't post last week. I didn't have access to the Internet. But I'm home again, so I can write!

Kate, you play the violin? I have the feeling you said that, but I forgot. I'm jealous. I've always wanted to learn.

Katie, I love the Sherlock Holmes movies. But I really hated how Conan Doyle brought back Holmes in the books. I remember being furious and throwing my book against the wall. It's like, "He's dead. Let it go."

Kayla, my resolution is to be nicer to people. I can be really mean sometimes. The friend I mentioned, with the website? A mutual friend of ours told the same thing to us both. She made our resolutions for us, pretty much.

Deidra - skating is one of my favourite pastimes ever. The only thing - except for Tae Kwon Do - that is athletic that I'm any good at.

Campion, I agree with everything you said about Tin Tn. I expected it to be so much better...Not bad. But not fantastic.

So...I feel that I had a question that I can't quite remember...Okay, a new one then. I was reading the other night, one of my all time favourite plays - Macbeth. Do you believe in preordained fate, or free will? Or are they the same thing?

School tomorrow... woo...

This has been a great vacation.  I needed one.

Even though I have had a tons of time to do things, I wish I had more.  I have so many things I want to do, but I simply won't have enough free time with school.  I have yet to watch the Doctor Who Special but it is on my computer ready to be seen.  I wish I had more time to practice my violin.  I also wanted to right down all of the quotes I have compiled since the last time I wrote in my quote journal.  I have, for the most part, memorized my speech, but I still need time to say it aloud.  I have not yet finished my optional math project, but I did finish my research paper.

I never make resolutions for the new year.  I know I wouldn't be able to keep them, but this year there wasn't anything I really wanted to achieve besides for short-term goals that aren't fit to be New Year's Resolutions.

So... the US Government passed the NDAA thing and I'm considering moving to Canada for college.  Yep.

I would really love it if I didn't have to go to school tomorrow.

Happy New Year!

So hello there it's 2012 and I actually managed to stay up! It's never anything special, but its nice to say I did I guess. I think it's because I could never make it as a small child. Either way. So how was the new years count down for you? Do you do it? Anything planed for the day or just a lazy I-don't-want-to-go-back-to-school thing? That's more me, because I might have school Monday and I'm not looking forward to it.

I do on occasion make a resolution or two, but this year I might have a few.
1. Learn Ukulele
2. Actually try an make some kind of peace with my demon of a teacher
3. Find out my grades for the end of my trimester. Seriously it's not funny anymore.
4. Smile more
5. and to just be more positive. I always feel too negative.

Wow I made a list, neat! The first one is a big one, since I failed so much at the guitar. I recently acquired a ukulele this past Thursday. I now know c,e,d,f,g major, a, e minor (i think), c7, and the intro to Candy Floss by Alex. Which is nice. I'm quite proud of myself and hope to continue throughout the next year.

I want to make 'procrastinate less' a resolution, but it won't work. Thanks for the review on Tin Tin, I was considering it, and if I can I'll try and see it with some friends. Instead of Tin Tin, I saw Sherlock Holmes two on Friday. I have to say it was amazing. I never like sequels but this was just absolutely awesome. Defiantly a must see if you want to laugh. The ending is just B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L! What I liked the best was that I saw it with friends that I hadn't seen since we went to different schools. It was just so nice seeing them, we had a great time.

I thinks it's great that you disagree with me Deidra. I feel she isn't as badass as Rory though. Like he punched Hitler in the face, died and became a Roman, and I just don't see Amy as important to The Doctor. I really just want to see him change and deal without them. I liked her in the beginning, but I feel her time is almost up as a character.
...

Now I've just rested, and I need to see if I swore at all. I curse a lot when I'm tired apparently. Nope we're good! I don't really have any plans today seeing as it's new years day and it's a Sunday so everything is closed. Which means I wait yet another week to get my haircut. All because my sister just can't sit still long enough to do something I want. Anyways...It's going to be a pretty boring day so I think I'll go with that. Happy new year, may it be full of awesome-y goodness! Dftba and,

Bye!♥
