Warning: Ron Rant Ahead

I don't really have much to talk about this week, mostly because I just don't feel like it so I'm just going to respond to a couple of things.

First, I like what Deidra said about how it's better to say 'I made a wrong choice' instead of 'Why does my life have to be like this'. I like to say that everything will just work itself out in the end somehow. So I'm not quite sure how that works into the whole fate situation. I'd probably say it's something like your decisions define what happens so I guess that's free will. If you've ever seen the movie The Adjustment Bureau that kind of shows how I think things work. It's like you have a set fate for something, but it can change depending on what happens around you and how you react to it. However, I'm not sure if I agree with the part of the movie that there are "people/angel/things" who make sure you don't get too far off track. So I guess my opinion is sort of a combination of free will and preordestined fate.... if that makes sense and is not too contradicting.

It's good to hear from you Adam. I hope you have a good time on your trip and relax, travelling isn't that bad unless you make it that way. I find if you don't worry too much about things like that they tend to go just fine. Being stressed won't do any good anyways. I'm sure your travels will all work out, but good luck all the same.

And now for the probably longest part of my post:

I am 100% on the side that Ron is a Gryffindor through and through. I read through a bunch of the comments and had a talk about it with Deidra yesterday and these are my reasons:

1) Yes, Ron has ambitions, but everyone does, it doesn't mean everyone is a Slytherin. I like to think that he just wants to prove his worth to his family. After all, he has so many siblings that have already done very well in school so he wants to live up to the same sort of level. (And not to be mean to Ron, he is one of my favourite characters, but he didn't exactly try that hard to become prefect in my opinion and the Slytherin chant says that they use any means to achieve their end.)

2) As for the whole "it's just because his whole family was in Gryffindor" or "he asked the hat to put him in that house" arguements, even with those factors I don't think it means he deserves his spot in Gryffindor any less. After all Harry asked to be put in Gryffindor and I think he is well suited for that house too. And not all families follow tradition like that (example: Sirius Black) so there's still the possibility of him being sent to another house, but he wasn't.

3) On that note, many comments were (stupidly) just saying that because Rowling put him there that's where he deserves to be, like she was god or something. That's not true though, she could have made a mistake (though I don't expect many seeing as how it's her series after all, but she is only human), but I think in this case her choice was justified. Which brings me to point...

4) Why he's really a Gryffindor. He's shown courage and bravery throughout the story. For example: The very first book when he sacrificed himself in the chess game so Harry and Hermione could go on to find the philosopher's stone. He followed Harry into the forest (following a trail of spiders no less), to the Ministry of magic to save Sirius, and to find the Horcruxes. Also even though he left that one time he did return to Harry and Hermione, that was brave considering he knew what he was up against and was thinking clearly now that he didn't have the Horcrux around his neck. Two other points of notice: he destroyed one of the Horcruxes, and he wore those horrible dress robes to the Yule Ball (haha, that took courage).

5) And as for the fact that he was so scared of doing certain things. Well, I like the quote that one person used in the comments that bravery is about facing your fears not having no fears at all. Repeating what I've already pointed out: Ron was scared of spiders, but he followed a trail of them into the forest. And it's not like Harry and Hermione and everyone else had absolutely no fears. I seem to recall them being scared on multiple occasions, but they faced them just the same, earning their spots there.

Aaaaaaannd that's it I think. Phew, that was a long one. I'll probably think of more things later on too, but I'll leave it at that for now. It'll be interesting hearing what you guys have to say, especially if you agree with him being a good Slytherin, seeing as I seem to be pretty strongly against him being anywhere else but Gryffindor. I hadn't really realized how adament I was on this topic until now.

Kira Didn't Leave a Title

So, I'm going to California for a week. Family trip. By the time you read this, I'll already be there, but I'm writing this on Saturday. I'm leaving in a few hours, so...yeah. I'm going to ask my fellow Nerdfighters to post this for me. I'm going to say things like I would if I were writing this on Tuesday, like I'm supposed to be doing.
Sunday was Harry Potter and J.K Rowling's birthday, so a very happy birthday to them. Did anyone get a Pottermore beta invite? If so, congrats!
Now, random tangent about Harry Potter over.
I recently moved back to the States from my long time home of Ontario. I am really craving company. This blog gives me something to do, and for that I am eternally grateful. I mean, there are only so many hours you can play the flute.
So, I'm going to ask you all a question. Apple or Microsoft? I'm an Apple girl myself. In fact, I'm writing this on my iPad.
Music recommendation time! My Chemical Romance. Yes, dorky, I know. But they seem to put a lot into their music, effort, heart, and all that jazz. There are better musicians out there, with less primitive songs, but MCR just plays with all they have.

Adventures in Ottawa

Sorry for making such a late blog post, I was out all day today with no chance to come online.

The reason for this is I'm in Ottawa, Canada's capital city! I've been here a few times before already because my older sister goes to university here. It's nice seeing her, she got a summer job in Ottawa so if I didn't come I wouldn't have been able to see her until Thanks Giving or something.

Ottawa is a really pretty city in my opinion and I'm even considering coming here for university as well. The weather is really nice too, if not a tad too hot on some days for my taste. I honestly prefer my northern town where winter can get pretty harsh, but summer is fairly warm.

As for sightseeing, I went to the Parliament buildings already. I climbed the Peace Tower (the main tower with the clock in it), and got to see the Parliament stray cats. My favourite part was seeing the library, though, because it has tons and tons of books and it's the only part of the Parliament that survived the fire that burnt everything else down back in 19something. The war memorial right near the Parliament buildings had guards there with those furry, black hats so I got a picture with them and managed to see the changing of the guards.

I got to go to the Nature Museum which had tons of cool things in it. My favourites being the giant turtle fossil, the world's largest and smallest land mammals known to have existed, the live bug collection, and the rocks (as boring as that may sound, they were actually really cool). I also went to the War Museum which was very informative and sad at times. They had a couple of actual letters from different people in different wars and they were really sad to read.

I'm still hoping to go to the National Art Gallery before we head back home. I've already been there like three times or something, but I never get tired of seeing all of the neat pieces of art there.

As for Deidra's post yesterday: In my opinion a classic is something that is sort of revolutionary and new for its time, but it stays relevant and interesting for ages afterwords so it keeps getting reprinted and reread until it magically achieves the "classic" status.
